EaSI Technical Assistance for social enterprise finance

Social enterprises contribute to the European policy in the area of employment and social inclusion and are particularly relevant for the implementation of the rights and principles expressed in the European Pillar for Social Rights.

The European Commission recognised the potential of social enterprises for innovation and their positive impact on the economy and society at large in its Social Business Initiative and Start-up and Scale-up Initiative. Within this context, lack of or poor access to finance was identified as one of the most significant barriers to the creation and development of social enterprises.

To this end, several financial instruments have been launched within the EaSI programme and the European Fund for Strategic Investments. In addition, EaSI technical assistance – which previously addressed only microcredit providers – has been extended to cover also targeted support to social enterprise finance intermediaries.

A consortium of service providers performs these technical assistance support services, on behalf of the European Commission. The lead partner of the consortium is the European Center for Social Finance at the Munich Business School. Services will be provided in collaboration with a network of around 25 established experts from the field.

Therefore, if you are funding or planning to fund social enterprises, you might be eligible for valuable technical assistance services.

What is in it for you?

Social enterprise finance intermediaries wishing to improve relevant aspects of their operations, performance and governance can apply for technical assistance with a view to boosting their institutional capacity. The aim is to select organisations that are in most need of support from EaSI Technical Assistance, ensuring a balanced geographical representation.

The social enterprise finance intermediaries targeted by the technical assistance services comprise:

  • social enterprise finance providers (such as banks, public and private investment funds, fund-of-funds or (co-) investment schemes)
  • impact investors keen to address in the future the market segment of the EaSI Guarantee for social enterprises (i.e. investments of up to €500,000)
  • social enterprise support organisations (such as incubators, accelerators) that offer accompanying financial support
  • social enterprise support organisations (such as incubators, accelerators) that are in the process of widening their scope with a view to providing accompanying financial support to social enterprises.

These technical assistance services focus on capacity building and cover analysis, training in designing suitable financial instruments, applying suitable tools and ensuring quality, mutual learning and exchange of good practice, networking and partnering, monitoring and evaluation.

Toms Shoes founder opens a Social Entrepreneurship Fund

As you probably know founder of Toms Shoe – Blake Mykoskie, sold half of it’s company to Bain Capital earlier this year. Eventually he invested some of that money into a new Social Entrepreneurship Fund in order to continue his mission – alleviate poverty and encourage social innovations. 

Blake is looking for investees to be added to his portfolio. What are they looking for? Here is the list:

In order to be considered for an equity investment from the TOMS Social Entrepreneurship Fund, your company must meet the following criteria:

  • An innovative business model that creates meaningful change.
  • Be a for-profit business.
  • Have a direct social mission (at scale, make the world a better place).
  • Has launched, or is preparing to launch within the next 90 days.
  • Have a product or service with a clear revenue stream(s) with paying customers.
  • If you’re making a technical product, your team has the necessary skills to develop and manufacture the product without outside expertise.
  • Have an Investment Presentation or Business Plan (minimum 15 slides/pages) that describes the problem your company is solving; the market opportunity; the background qualifications of your team; and the financial terms of the investment opportunity.
  • A minimum of $100,000 of commitments from other Accredited Investors, Venture Capital Fund(s), or a Startup Accelerator. The TOMS Social Entrepreneurship Fund is a strategic, follow-on investor. We do NOT lead investment rounds.

Kuriame senjorų daugiabutį Vilniuje.

Ieškome senjorų, kurie nori gyventi geriau įsikurdami jaukiuose ir patogiuose 27 m2 butuose, už kuriuos moka jų pačių butų nuoma.

„Orūs namai“ yra socialinis projektas, kurio tikslas – sukurti sąlygas senjorams oriai gyventi jaukioje kaimynystėje nesukant galvos dėl būsto išlaikymo.

„Orūs namai“ yra vienas įdomiausių inovatyvių socialinių projektų Lietuvoje, tačiau jo šviesai uždegti reikėjo ir dar reikės daug energijos, kantrybės, ryžto ir tikėjimo.

 

Todėl šiuo metu ieškome senjorų, kurie: 

  • savo namuose jaučiasi vieniši ir nesaugūs (net jei ir turi artimųjų);
  • turi butą Vilniuje, kurį per sunku finansiškai išlaikyti (net jei tai tik vieno kambario senos statybos būstas);
  • gali ir nori kraustytis į naujus, jaukius, jiems pritaikytus butus;
  • dar kol kas gali ir nori gyventi savarankiškai;
  • svarbiausia – nori geresnio gyvenimo.

 

Kas yra „Orūs namai“?

Beveik pusė Lietuvos senjorų skursta vieniši savo būstuose. Didžiąją savo pajamų dalį, ypač šildymo sezono metu, jie išleidžia neekonomiškų ir vyresniam amžiui nepritaikytų būstų išlaikymui.

Mūsų sprendimas? Kviečiame senjorus išnuomoti savo senuosius būstus ir keltis gyventi į būtent jiems įrengtus butus „Orių namų“ daugiabutyje. Iš nuomos gaunamos pajamos visiškai padengia gyvenimo juose išlaidas (nereikia papildomai mokėti nei už nuomą, nei už komunalines išlaidas, internetą ar kabelinę), todėl visa pensija lieka kitoms senjorų reikmėms.

„Orių namų“ daugiabutį sudaro keturi 27 m2 butai ir bendras holas, kuriame visi gali susitikti, bendrauti, užsiimti mėgstamomis veiklomis.

Daugiabutis yra Vilniuje, Karoliniškėse, Loretos Asanavičiūtės g. 46-62. Privalumai: pirmas aukštas, be jokių laiptukų, kaimynystėje yra Karoliniškių poliklinika, turgus, SoDra, vaistinė, parduotuvės, viešojo transporto stotelė.

Tai savarankiško gyvenimo namai. Niekas nereguliuoja senjorų gyvenimų, bet visada yra kas padeda, kai tik prireikia pagalbos.

Senieji būstai išnuomojami, bet lieka senjorų nuosavybe, todėl apsisprendę jie turi galimybę grįžti į savo senuosius namus.

Inicio är en av 2019 års Change Leaders och får stöd av Reach for Change i upp till fem år

Ikväll får Mikaela Illanes och Mark Smith delade scenen med två andra change leaders, Drömstort och Mobile Stories, i en ceremoni på Fryshuset i Stockholm då Reach for Change presenterade årets Change Leaders. Att utses till Change Leader innebär ett ekonomiskt och rådgivande stöd i upp till fem år för att kunna utveckla ens innovativa idéer och kunna göra skillnad för så många barn som möjligt.

Att få utmärkelsen Change Leader innebär:

  • Finansiellt stöd som är behovsanpassat för att personen ska kunna fokusera på utvecklingen av sin innovation och idé.
  • Rådgivning och coaching inom områden där personen och verksamheten har störst behov att utvecklas. Fokus ligger på effektmätning, finansiell hållbarhet, ledarskap, uppskalning och systemförändring.
  • Tillgång till Reach For Changes globala nätverk.

Juryn som utsåg årets Change Leaders bestod av representanter från Reach for Change, Tele2, Kinnevik, Roschier, Hugo Stenbecks stiftelse, Rädda barnen och Qvartz.

– Det har varit en otroligt spännande process i år, med många starka initiativ och drivna personer. Våra partners i juryn fick verkligen kämpa för att välja ut vinnarna.
